THE HOMELESS CAMERA ADVENTURE
The idea is simple.     Give people who live on the streets a camera.     Publish the results.

There are ample venues where one can view photos of the homeless, but what happens when we turn that concept around and see life through the eyes of the homeless?

What develops is a visual story of life from a unique perspective. Carving out a life in the raw urban elements, the street savvy must acquire skills and knowledge the rest of us know little about.

Basing our quest upon the axiom that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we seek to present a view of the world as one who is homeless.

Capturing the beauty of life as observed and experienced by the homeless is one of the goals of the Homeless Camera Adventure.
Time spent. Many of us include those two words in our daily conversations with never a thought of appreciation placed upon either.

Just how do those without homes spend their time? See for yourself from behind the homeless camera looking into the world as a moment in time is captured.

Homelessness can be considered the flipside of a society accustomed to comfortable security.

For many of us, the homeless are largely invisible. But the reality remains that every urban area has people living on the streets. The Homeless Camera Adventure seeks to present a perspective of society as experienced from the streets.
The reasons one become homeless is a debate for the ages. The fact remains unchanged. An estimated 744,000 Americans currently live on the fringes of society.

While most appear trapped, others desire the lonesome independence. Regardless, all have a story to tell. Some of those stories can be found here in the photos they've taken.

im not so sure this represents the homeless community as it looks like alot of these pictures were taken in such a short time period, maybe if it spanned a whole year itd be alot cooler, give em like 4 rolls of film, or every few months give em a new one...the only problem is getting a mailing address...

I believe that the pics of the trash are meant more as a comparison between Us(the homeless of the valley) and trash in the eyes of normal society. Most of you see us as nomore than a trash pile...I think deep down you know I am right. The landscapes are beautifull and also barren...This is OUR HOME...this is where we get to live. For the most part we are christian and damn proud of it, but we have all been left alone at some point(think of that metaphorically), but what you dont get to see is the connection when you are out there. I have meet almost everyone of the people (not homeless, we are people) shown here, and the photographers to. I just wish you all culd just see the connections...24yrmale...Medford

homelessness could be for a lot of reasons no work, drugs, alcohol, mental health, laziness. Homeless places get hard to live at because of attackers, drug addicts, convicts, gangs.Homeless places rape threats and everything else.It becomes hard to live there hard to get food there sometimes especially when you try to avoid violence like I do about 90 percent of the time.Nobody wants to hear it.I mean I was outside standing in the freezing cold at the labor pools waiting for work all the years I spent I barely got any.Try to find a family member to get help because first of all its dangerous, second of all people are getting malnourishment I never seen so much junk food is that all there is. At a rescue mission in Eugene I got so sick from their food I threw up for a week straight. Then once a week for a few other weeks.

If the guy with the white hair is "Wally" he totally looks like my dad. Its not by dad of course, but just imagining him in that situation is depressing.

I found this site after reading the Mail Medford Tribune article on "Downtown Dan". Between all the photos here taken by the homeless and the indepth article of life as a homeless person, makes a nice compliment to each other.

All of these pictures have an element of loneliness to them...awesome, to say the least. Great job!

Nowhere is homelessness more invisible than southern Calif. It would be good to include homeless from there. So many homeless get lost between the cracks of govt help and faith based responses.

No, not a route to no where, rather being railroaded out of town like so many homeless must feel like.

I like the train track shots. A route to nowhere.

What a unique idea this is

Interesting how the photos from Florida by Kim are so much different than the photos from the 5 from Oregon. Seems to be more of a social network in the photos from Kim.

The time is surely coming when homelessness is a national issue.

Kim is a bit more social in her selection of photos than the others. Most all have a human subject to them. Thanks for sharing them.
