What is a homeless camera adventure?
The Homeless Camera Adventure presents galleries of photos taken by people who live on the streets as they visually tell their unique story. It provides an inside glimpse of how and where the homeless view the world. There are numerous places on the Internet where we can view photos of the homeless, but we want to present a view from the homeless.
What is the purpose of the Homeless Camera Adventure?
The Homeless Camera Adventure came out of the desire to focus positive attention on homelessness. The homeless in America are too often ignored and contine to suffer as a result. By showcasing a visual perspective of some homeless individuals, we hope to personalize the plight of homelessness in America.
As people begin to focus attention on the homeless life, solutions become possible. Homeless people do not have boot straps. The difficulties in escaping homelessness can be so immense as to overwhelm even the most determined. They need a hand from the rest of society; a society which does not turn a blind eye.
Lastly, we have a desire to let others contribute visual essays regarding the beauty of life based upon their unique vantage point. It can be said of the Comfortably Secure that they view life from behind a windshield. Those without a home view life from a different perspective: the streets. We hope to help in the building of the bridge between the two views.
What's so special about pictures homeless people take?
As one views the photos here, the realization can be discovered why the homeless are largely invisible in our society. You'll notice that many photos are taken from the backside of urban areas. Behind commercial and industrial sections, wood areas, abandoned lots, train tracks ... all places the mainstream of society miss. As you view each photo, view it as if you too were homeless.
Can I be a part of the Homeless Camera Adventure?
Sure! If you're friends with anyone living on the streets, give them a disposable camera if they are interested and instruct them to simply take pictures of that which they see as beautiful. Upon completion, you can develop the film, scan the images, and email them to us. Or just send us the camera and we'll do the rest. If you want, we'll even give you credit for helping and a link to your web site.
If you are homeless and want to see your photos at homelesscamera.com, email us and we'll try to make it happen.
How much money are you making off of this?
The Home Camera Adventure does not solicit in any form other than asking for your attention to be drawn to the concern of homelessness in America. No money is made from this web site.
Why bother trying to help the homeless?
The answer is very simple. God alone is the judge of all men. Man is to love God. God teaches we are to love Him by loving our fellow man. Therefore, we are not to judge the homeless, but to love and help them regardless of their situation. In so doing, we are actively loving God.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:40, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.".
